Summer Self-Portrait Series: THIS IS WHAT I LOOK LIKE.

rediscovering the power of the self-portrait. I am starting a series called, "THIS IS WHAT I LOOK LIKE". No makeup, no fake smiles, just my face. I want to take away the thought that we are always smiling, we are always beautiful... sometimes we are ugly, sometimes we look despondent. Everyone realizes this, but I just really want to emphasize that. I feel the most powerful when I take self-portraits like this. They are so much more raw.

i'm unleashed for the summer

I finally have the chance to photograph. My vigorous classes at school have kept me from being able to explore my camera. Now, I am so thrilled to be able to grow this summer, because I know I am able to do a lot of projects now. The following photos were actually for my art class, but, I ended up getting really remedial scores on them. But, a lot of my peers really enjoyed them. I will admit, they were a bit rushed. I was kind of like, "Hey! Do you want to come to my house after school and model for me?" And then during my classes I would think of how I was going to set up and what concept I was going to do. The first two were of my friend, Sabrina. I used silver sequins on half of her face, I originally wanted to do the entire face but it ended up looking extremely odd. I've been getting into the color silver, and using the silver on my subjects, but not just strictly in photography. I've used the color silver on my subjects for other art projects. It followed my body of work, so I decided to roll with it. I actually did cornrows for her hair, and that shirt that she was wearing was so unplanned. She was wearing it when I went to her house, but I ended up liking it. I felt that it looked good with the personality I wanted her to have.

leo the LION

Exploring body art - and I have fallen in love with it. There's nothing more great to me than taking the human himself and turning into an art work.

seventeen

I recently turned seventeen last Monday and I've decided that every weekend from my seventeenth birthday I will create something new. By the time I turn eighteen next year, I'll have 52 weeks of photographs.

This is black and white film that I developed last Sunday.

I always need to remind myself that I shouldn't reject myself when it comes to photographing. I'm always so afraid that no one will enjoy what I put out and sometimes I stop myself from posting what I really want people to see. I think that it's important for me to remember that these are MY own original photographs and they truly reflect who I am.

The Face of Fate's Daughter

Sometimes, we get so caught up in the things that happen to us. Everyone tends to dwell and regret. The important thing is to realize the things that you've been through took you somewhere, and that is fate. I wanted to use these photographs to represent the strength I have gained in the last year. I have finally broken down my boundaries and have branched out of my limits. My friend, Monica, is an independent character herself, and I thought she'd be perfect for this. For the first 3 shots, I chose to use water to represent rebirth, new ideas, and conquering struggles. I also retired from my Nikon D3000 to a brand new Canon Rebel T3i.
